My Master’s Final Major Project

This aim for this project was to design an interior for an active and creative family of 4. All materials and products used had be be sourced, produced and shipped from within Europe, to the location of the property in Norway. The house should also be self-sufficient with power and be able to grow food all year long.

Key features:

  • Mini wind turbines on the roof, and Organic Photovoltaic Cells (OPV) on most of the windows that produces power.

  • A greenhouse on both sides of the balcony on the 2nd floor.

  • Cleaver solutions for storage

  • Environmentally friendly, non-toxic and locally-sourced materials and products.

  • Designed based on the clients’ personalities, preferences and cultural background.

Exterior.
The south-facing facade of the house has lots of natural lightning. Two small windmills and and Organic Photovoltaic Cells (OPV) on the windows will produce power for the house.

A spacious and colorful hallway.
The hallway has an activity area which encourages the whole family to be active. Sound absorbing wall boards from recycled sawdust are installed on the walls.
Floor made from recycled, non-toxic rubber, and walls from locally-sourced certified wood. A hole in the ceiling connects the ground floor to the first floor.
This is the master bedroom. The windows has OPV which both produces power, but also acts as a privacy protection.

A spacious walk-in-closet with moving shelving to maximize the storage space.

Master bathroom. One wall is covered in locally-sourced moss which absorbs moisture.

The bar can be raised to create a small tub for bathing e.g. children.
The stair which connects all three floors can be turned into a slide by the push of a button.

To bring the activity theme up to the top floor, did I mount a hanging net with adjacent monkey bars mounted to the wall.
